Company Key PersonnelKasey L. Benson, Ph.D., Scientific DirectorDr. Benson obtained her degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from Colorado State University, where she focused on understanding transcription of the Human T-cell Leukemia Virus Type-1, a virus known to cause cancer. More specifically, she expanded the current in vitro system to evaluate how the virus makes RNA when its genome is highly condensed and packaged into chromatin, providing insight important for developing treatments. Dr. Benson’s knowledge of in vitro transcription systems led her to a research scientist position at Ribomed Biotechnologies, Inc. where she expanded her biochemical techniques to include analytical chemistry and assay development. She has recent laboratory experience that includes knowledge of cell culture, protein purification, radiation and DNA/RNA manipulations, as well as four years of teaching and laboratory management experience. Her mix of research and human resource skills provide a basis for her direction of ImmuneRegen's scientific developmental efforts. Dr. Benson joined ImmuneRegen in May 2007. Heidi L. Pinyerd, B.S., Scientific Program ManagerMs. Pinyerd earned her B.S. in Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2005 from Arizona State University. She spent three years working as a Research Technician for the Center for Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology at the Biodesign Institute, eventually serving as the Lab Manager for a group focused on the development of plant-derived vaccines and reversion of gene silencing. Her extensive hands-on technical experience in molecular techniques and animal studies, as well as her familiarity with teaching college-level courses, has given her the wide range of skill necessary to design, manage and interpret product development studies. She has been a member of the ImmuneRegen BioSciences science team since January 2007 where she manages the infectious diseases and adjuvant programs. Chris A. Romano, B.S., Scientific Program ManagerChris Romano joins ImmuneRegen from the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Research Center to provide engineering, technical, and program management support. Mr. Romano graduated magna cum laude from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science and Engineering degree in Bioengineering and an emphasis in molecular, cellular, and tissue engineering. Mr. Romano’s research at ASU focused primarily on novel biodegradable drug delivery devices, with an emphasis on growth factor-delivering polymers. He was awarded third place in his class for his Capstone project: A Biodegradable Polymer Infused with TGF-β1 for Delivery to Defected Articular Cartilage. Currently, Mr. Romano’s focus is centered on developing the wound healing and tissue regenerative capacity of ImmuneRegen’s lead drug candidate, Homspera®. Michelle R. Laroche, Corporate Secretary, Director of OperationsMs. Laroche brings to her position more than 16 years of diverse experience in finance, banking and corporate administration, where she has served in a progressive range of executive positions. As Director of Operations for ImmuneRegen BioSciences, Inc., her broad responsibilities include office management; legal documentation; stock issuance, tracking and reporting; vendor and client relations; and auditing assistance. Her expertise and experience in merchant banking and both private and public capital raises have been utilized by such companies as FirstUSA, Citizens Bank and Foresight Capital Corporation.
